7-year-old writes Jerry: ‘We suck,’ Eagles’ Kelce rips Cowboys fans

7-year-old writes complaint to Jerry Jones

“My name is Rylan Wood.  I am a 7-year-old. . . .  You have made my mom very mad because WE SUCK.  See what happens when Dez is gone.  The cheerleaders are better than the team this year.  I do not want to hurt your feelings.”

Rylan Wood, Dallas Cowboys fan, in letter to Dallas Cowboys owner, reported by WFAA TV

Jerry Jones is a dictator; it’s all about him.  He should be willing to bring in more experienced people who have a lot more expertise in different places.  If you have the philosophy of wanting to be the dumbest guy in the room, you will get a lot of things done.  But if you always have to be the smartest guy in the room, it’s not going to go well over a period of time.”

Steve Young, Hall of Fame quarterback, on ESPN Pardon the Interruption

Cowboys fans lack ‘emotional connection’

“I don’t like the franchise or the organization, what it stands for, what it’s always stood for, AND what it’s fans stood for . . . fair-weather people from across the country that fell in love because they’re winners, instead of having any emotional connection with the team.”

Jason Kelce, Philadephia Eagles center, looking to Sunday’s game against Dallas

Jon Gruden as Raiders coach is a failure

“Gruden was a great coach at one point, maybe.  Now he’s a TV star acting like a coach.  This clearly is not working.”

Bill Plaschke, ESPN Around the Horn

Breeders’ Cup runneth dry

“I used to watch the Breeders’ Cup for hours.  I looked forward to watching  the Breeders’ Cup Classic, that was the thing you wanted to see.  This one?  I didn’t even know it was on.  Horse racing?  They’re in the ether now.  They’re not there anymore.”

Tony Kornheiser, Pardon the Interruption

Jameis tries too many throws

“Winston said, ‘Coach, there’s no throw I’m afraid to make.’ And (Dirk) Koetter said, ‘Well, maybe you should be afraid of some of those throws.’  In 3 ½ years Jameis Winston has never learned the proper respect for risk-taking.  That’s why this will be his last year in Tampa.”

Peter King, NBCS Pro Football Talk

Aaron Rodgers not enthralled with McCarthy

“The Packers have gotten a little stale.  You get the distinct impression that one of the best quarterbacks ever to play is not enthralled with the play-calling or where this offense is right now.”

Benjamin Watson on the right to vote

“This summer I took my two daughters to Selma, Ala., for the 53rd anniversary of the march to fight for the right to vote.  There was blood shed for that right to vote.  We know what that right means.  We need to exercise that right.  We all need to be heard.”

Vance Joseph botches the ending of Texans-Broncos game

“On the day when the rest of us got an extra hour of sleep, the clock was too much for Joseph to manage.  Fall back.  Stumble forward.  Two blunders of time and place in the kicking game cost Denver nine points against Houston.”

Mark Kiszla, Denver Post
